SOUTHERN MARYLAND YOUTH ORGANIZATION

SOUTHERN MARYLAND YOUTH ORGANIZATION

We offer year-round, competitive Performance Recreation Cheerleading for athletes ages 4 to 18 with or without cheerleading experience. Our mission is to provide a fun, safe, encouraging cheerleading atmosphere; while teaching the skills to develop strong character, positive attitudes, responsibility, and sportsmanship as well as instilling positive goals, dreams, and values in cheerleading.

SMYO Cheer Elite differs from traditional school/recreational cheer programs largely because of our focus on competing. There are no games to cheer at, no spirit-raising and most of the athletes on each team will not even attend the same school. We refer to our participants as "athletes" rather than by any other name and that's because of the caliber and intensity of training that they do on a weekly basis to be able to contribute to his or her competitive team.

Our program has a place for everyone, regardless of skill level. The teams are placed into divisions, which are based upon age, size of the team, and ability level. Coaches will typically train their athletes on individual skills and team components for months before choreographing routines that combine those skills together to be judged against other teams in their division.

We strive to keep our costs as low as possible while delivering the best cheer experience for our athletes.

Fundraising

Fundraising is very important for our cheer program, as it allows us to purchase cheerleading performance mats, tumbling mats, future building space, and additional equipment to benefit the participants.

ALL ATHLETES, regardless of the payment plan option, have a mandatory fundraising requirement of $350. This fee must be met/paid by the end of March for all cheerleaders. SMYO will hold several fundraisers to allow each cheerleader to meet their mandatory requirement. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards our goal to fund a future building, new mats, etc.

Summer Fundraising

All registered cheerleaders will have the opportunity to participate in two summer fundraisers to offset the $600 package fee and $175 August monthly tuition (Full Year) and $125 August monthly tuition (Prep Team).

(June Fundraiser) Sponsor My Season (Bow To Toe): Post a copy of the provided Bow to Toe document on social media, etc. and allow family and friends to purchase pieces of your cheerleader’s uniform package.

To get full credit, you must turn in the bow to toe document and cash only at the first day of practice.

(July Fundraiser) Cheer Calendar: Post a copy of the provided calendar for your cheerleader on social media, etc. and allow family and friends to purchase a date and you collect the money.

For example, Uncle Tim buys July 23. He now must send you $23.

If you sell the calendar out, you will make $496! $175 (Full Year) or $125 (Prep Team) will go towards your first tuition payment for August and the remaining balance will go towards SMYO seasonal goals. You do not have to sell out the entire calendar, whatever funds you sell will go towards your August tuition balance.

To get full credit, you must turn in the calendar and cash only at the first day of practice.

NOTE: These documents can be obtained through the SMYO Season 7 Newcomer BAND. You will receive access to this BAND upon registration of your cheerleader.

Sibling Discount

We offer discounts for siblings! Sibling discounts will be offered if ALL athletes are enrolled in the full-year cheer program. We are offering $25 off the second sibling monthly tuition, $25 off the third sibling monthly tuition, etc.

For this discount to apply, all cheerleaders must be registered under one SMYO account.

For example, if you have 3 athletes in the full year program, your tuition payment will be as follows:

Child 1: $175

Child 2: $150

Child 3: $150

Total $475 per month

**Please note all athletes will still have the $350 mandatory fundraising requirement.
